Blackness and color of pigment black

In fact, the main factors affecting the properties of pigment black are blackness and particle size. In simple terms, the blackness is directly related to the particle size of the carbon black. The smaller the particle size, the larger the specific surface area is and the higher the blackness of the carbon black is. This is because although the primary particles have been fused into primary aggregates, they still work, and the primary particles are thinner, the larger the surface area of the aggregates.

Only in this way, the pigmented carbon black color appears darker, better UV protection. Coloring power is stronger due to the higher absorbance of fine particle carbon black than coarse particle carbon black.

However, as the particle size decreases, the hue becomes brown due to the blue light being preferentially absorbed. Fine particles of primary particles give a larger surface area of carbon black, while increasing the difficulty of dispersion, generally by surface treatment can adjust the wettability and improve the dispersion.

The main characteristics of pigment black is high blackness, high tinting strength, hue stability, high purity, good fluidity and good dispersion. Can be widely used in plastics, paints, inks, masterbatch, chemical fiber, leather and toner.

Even in its structure, it exists not only in the form of primary particles but also in the production of agglomerates. This aggregate is chemically bound by primary particles. In the process of agglomeration, carbon black consisting of a large number of primary aggregates of chain branches is called high-structure carbon black. The primary aggregates from less chain branches of the primary particles of carbon black, then known as low-carbon black.
